||Day Six||
Today was crazy.
I love airports and I love flying, but that does not stop the pre-flight jitters that seem to come over me every time. This morning I was an absolute mess while I was running around, making sure I had packed everything the night before, only to find out that I had in fact forgotten both my glasses (which aren't crucial, I can see well enough) and my Go Pro (which just would have been really awesome to debut).
For it only being a two hour flight, it seemed to go on forever. Perhaps because on my normal flights to Wisconsin, which consists of two one-hour flights, I tend to sleep and thus making the trip go extremely quickly. However, I just couldn't sleep this time. So instead I read what felt like 100 pages of Sarah Dessen's "The Truth About Forever", which I am hoping to make a separate post about as one of my first non-personal posts.
When we finally landed in Orlando, I was in awe of how adorable and beautiful the airport was. I'm sure I seemed SUPER tourist-y, pulling out my DSLR every five seconds to snap pictures, but at least I'm becoming less and less bothered by judgmental looks.
At last we arrived to the hotel, which is always something I enjoy about going on vacations. For this first night we were given a view of the sand dunes, which I personally didn't mind, but tomorrow we are moving up to a partial-beach-view room which I'm sure will be ever more beautiful.
After settling into the room and unwinding from the flight/drive, my dad and I did some exploring and walked along the beach. The sun was just starting to go down, the beach was mostly cleared, the tide was rolling in slowly, and it was just the most perfect view. One of my favorite parts of the day, however, was on our way back to our hotel (which was a decent enough walk) we ended up taking our own shortcut by hopping a fence -- cut down the walk back by at least another 10-15 minutes!
For dinner we had planned on going to this local restaurant on the pier, but due to not having "lunch" until around 5:00, no one was hungry until 10:00 which was when the restaurant closed. So we decided to venture out and find somewhere else to eat, thus stumbling upon Waffle House. Was it the only place open at 10:00 p.m. on a Saturday night? No. But I'd always wanted to try it, and neither my dad or brother opposed. And as sketchy as it may seem from the outside, the food itself is delicious. Naturally, I had to get a waffle and make sure that it lived up to its namesake -- it did.
With one day down, and plenty more to go, I am ready to continue my Florida adventure.
But for now, some desperately needed sleep.
