||Day Three||
Today was yet another amazing day.
Today was yet another amazing day.
I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I actually have things to do and places to go or if it's just my trying to have a more positive outlook on things, but I'd say it's working!
This morning I woke up ready for a dramatic change; a dramatic hair change, that is. For so long (too long) I have just felt unhappy with my hair. I didn't feel like it suited me but I couldn't figure out how to change it for the better. I tried cutting it shorter, I tried getting bangs, I tried getting a perm, and nothing seemed to feel right. But finally I had decided to get highlights.
I had actually had highlights ONCE before, in 8th grade. Let's just say it looked less blonde, more yellow. So the thought to try highlights again had never occurred to me. I have colored my hair many times before also, but mostly reds and a darker brown once, and while those looked okay on me it still wasn't RIGHT.

So here is my before picture; my natural hair color. And while it has served me well for the time being, I was ready for something new and something fun.
Voila, the big reveal. It's a little difficult to tell a difference from the lighting and the way I've edited these pictures, but in person it looks significant.
And the consensus.... I LOVE IT. I think this was just the change that I needed, without it also being too drastic (i.e. I didn't shave my head or dye it electric blue).
I'll especially be interested to see how it lightens even more with it being summer AND since I will be spending some time on a beach for the first time in forever.
Now the real question is: "Do blondes, do they like REALLY have more fun?"
(That is of course a "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" reference)
Besides my haircut, even more pampering happened today.
As part of my birthday, my mom took me out to get our nails professionally done. Not acrylic nails, because let's face it, I can't pull that off, but for just a standard manicure.
I got a polish called "We'll Always Have Paris" by OPI. When you look it up online it's a dark maroon, but on my nails looks pretty much black, even under lights.
Overall, the experience was nice. The ladies that did mine and my mom's manicure were very friendly and didn't rush through us at all, despite us being the last appointment that stood between them going home. I was also happy to have my poor cuticles professionally treated and my nails shaped, since I can never seem to get them right, myself. However, for the price that it was, I think I'll be doing my own manicures for a while. (P.S. Not engaged, just thought I'd show off my bling. Also I couldn't take a picture of my right hand with my DSLR.)
Lastly, to top off my fantastic day and as another birthday treat, my mom and I stopped by this local cupcake shop. It had opened up two summers ago, I believe, but we never got a chance to go in until now. Since we didn't make a birthday cake for me, and since my mom's birthday is tomorrow, cupcakes just seemed like the right decision!
We got four cupcakes (because it was a better deal!): two chocolate peanut butter, one red velvet, and one hummingbird (which is a cinnamon-pecan-coconut flavor). They are absolutely delicious, especially the icing, which is MY favorite part of a cupcake.
As I said, it was another wonderful day. And tomorrow shall be fun-filled as well!
At the risk of sounding too redundant from my conclusion on yesterday's post, I will just say this:
(so far) blondes really do have more fun.
