||Day Ninety||
Today I was working a double shift at work.
Double shifts are already killer, as is; being on your feet all day has got to be unnatural.
But this particular Saturday was even more challenging because today marked the first day that freshmen would move into the dorms.
Since I was (at least somewhat) mentally prepared for this daunting task, I decided to treat myself to a good breakfast -- cinnamon rolls with orange icing.

But this particular Saturday was even more challenging because today marked the first day that freshmen would move into the dorms.
Since I was (at least somewhat) mentally prepared for this daunting task, I decided to treat myself to a good breakfast -- cinnamon rolls with orange icing.
After taking care of my dog, showering, eating breakfast as fast as humanly possible, and getting ready, I flew out the door for my first shift at work. The morning was fairly steady, but got crowded around 1:00 for a lunch-rush. I was let off work around 2:30, because I was coming back on at 4:00. I rushed home, at a quick lunch, then back to work. I was thinking, or rather hoping, that when I got back things would have cooled down. On the contrary, there was a constant flow of things that needed to be done -- people who needed to bet sat, menus that needed to be picked up and sorted, tables that needed to be bussed. It was a madhouse. And somehow, I managed to hold down the fort mostly by myself for about an hour and a half until the last person came to work.
The whole evening was busy, only barely deterred by the sudden rainstorm that came in.
But we managed to survive. And I managed to make it home before 10 pm.
All I wanted to do was to not be on my feet. But there was the tiniest voice inside me telling me to finally (after being here for almost a week) unpack my clothes. So I did. I don't know why unpacking is so obnoxious and tedious, but it is. I was reveling in this tiny victory until I realized that I have a laundry bag full of more clothes. That will just have to wait until another day.
It's been an incredibly taxing day, with not much time to recover since I work tomorrow evening as well. But right now I am thankful for my bed, which is the most comfortable place to sleep in the world, the air conditioning, because it is making my room a tranquil paradise at 74 instead of a sauna at 79, and for my Bath & Body Works lotion socks, which are ever so slightly soothing my tired and overworked feet. Oh, how this is only the beginning.
